The role of the Monterey County USAR team is to locate victims and manage recovery operations in the event of a disaster or emergency. Urban search-and-rescue is considered a multi-hazard discipline, as it may be needed for a variety of hazards including earthquakes, cyclones, storms and tornadoes, floods, dam failures, technological accidents, terrorist activities, and hazardous materials releases. The City of Monterey places a high priority on public safety, so supporting this program is very important. Our team is capable of not only serving our residents, but can also be deployed in a state or national emergency.
This overview will give you an idea of the hard work our fire department goes through to ensure public safety.
