A Resource For Unmet and Recovery Needs

BATON ROUGE, La. — Long-term partnerships play a fundamental role for survivors of the 2016 August floods as recovery transitions to unmet needs.

FEMA encourages survivors to connect with, and seek help from, volunteer, faith- and community-based organizations that provide essential long-term recovery resources.

FEMA Voluntary Agency Liaison (VAL) teams currently work with many of these organizations such as the Catholic Charities of Baton Rouge and Lutheran Disaster Response. FEMA supports the creation of long-term recovery committees that will help address and create solutions to fill unmet needs.

One of these is the Acadiana Long Term Recovery Committee (ALTRC), a coalition of local non-profit organizations actively seeking information from individuals who are still in need of recovery assistance. ALTRC’s goal is to address the entire spectrum of post-flood housing needs.

ALTRC will offer services to flood-impacted households at any stage of recovery that can be combined with assistance from other sources, such as FEMA. In addition, some ALTRC organizations are offering assistance that is not income-based.

Survivors are encouraged to call in and report the status of their recovery ASAP so that any unmet needs may be addressed. Individuals should call 232-HELP (337-232-4357) or 2-1-1 if they are in need of assistance. All information reported will be kept confidential.

Flood survivors with unmet needs are also encouraged to contact the Disaster Case Management Program (DCMP) for help in planning their path to recovery. The contact number is 844-581-2207 or via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
