SAN ELIZARIO RESIDENTS CAN NOW PURCHASE FLOOD INSURANCE

DENTON, Texas –The city of San Elizario, Texas, located in El Paso County, is now a participating community in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and that means residents can purchase flood insurance.

Homes or businesses do not have to be in a designated Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) to experience flooding. Anyone can be financially vulnerable to floods. In fact, people outside of high-risk areas file more than 20 percent of NFIP claims and receive one-third of disaster assistance payments for flooding.

Since joining NFIP on Feb. 27, 2017, the city of San Elizario offers residents a more cost-effective way to recover from a flooding event. Most homeowner insurance policies do not cover the effects of flooding. It takes 30 days after purchase for a policy to take effect.

San Elizario homeowners, renters and business owners who would like to view the latest flood maps should contact their local floodplain administrator at city hall.  It is also recommended that residents who need flood insurance contact their local insurance agent.

For more information on the National Flood Insurance Program, contact the NFIP Call Center at,1-800-621-3362, Option #2.
