SPRING BRANCH RESIDENTS CAN NOW PURCHASE FLOOD INSURANCE

DENTON, Texas –Spring Branch, Texas, located in Comal County, is now a participating community in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and that means those living and working in the town can purchase flood insurance.

Homes or businesses do not have to be in a designated Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) to experience flooding. Anyone can be financially vulnerable to floods. In fact, people outside of high-risk areas file more than 20 percent of NFIP claims and receive one-third of disaster assistance payments for flooding.

Since joining NFIP on Mar. 21, 2017, the city of Spring Branch can now offer residents a more cost-effective way to recover from a flooding event. Most homeowner insurance policies do not cover the effects of flooding. It takes 30 days after purchase for a policy to take effect.

Spring Branch homeowners, renters and business owners who would like to view the latest flood maps should contact their local floodplain administrator at city hall or the local courthouse.  It is also recommended that those needing flood insurance contact their local insurance agent to obtain that coverage.
