FEMA grants $1 million to Montgomery County Drainage District #6

AUSTIN, Texas — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded more than $1 million to Montgomery County Drainage District #6 for repairs to the Spring Creek area following Hurricane Harvey.Flooding in Montgomery County forced water backward and caused Spring Creek to flood. This caused the walls of the drainage channels into Spring Creek to collapse.The total cost of the repairs exceeded $1.1 million. FEMA’s grant of more than $1 million required $114,207, or a 10 percent nonfederal contribution, from the applicant.The grant comes from FEMA’s Public Assistance grant program, which...

Ortiz family lays foundation in La Grange, with some help

Celebrate service this National Volunteer Week, April 7-13 AUSTIN, Texas — Jessica Ortiz and her family lost everything in Hurricane Harvey. The storm’s historic flood filled their mobile home in La Grange, Texas, to within 18 inches of the ceiling, turning everything “muddy, smelly and gross.”  She and her three kids spent September and October 2017 living with a friend in San Antonio, then moved into a hotel provided through FEMA for about five months, then moved into a FEMA mobile housing unit, which they occupied through March 27 of this year....
