FEMA grants $3.2 million to Hardin County for debris removal

AUSTIN, Texas The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded more than $3.2 million to Hardin County for debris removal following Hurricane Harvey.

Hardin County removed more than 127,000 cubic yards of construction, demolition, vegetative and appliance debris left behind by Harvey’s flooding and winds. The county was also reimbursed for debris monitoring, removal of tire debris and repair of a water line damaged during removal operations.

The total cost of the debris removal exceeded $3.6 million. FEMA’s grant of more than $3.2 million required $363,894, or a 10 percent nonfederal contribution, from the applicant.

The grant comes from FEMA’s Public Assistance grant program, which reimburses eligible applicants for actions taken in the immediate response to and during recovery from a disaster. These eligible applicants include states, federally recognized tribal governments, U.S. territories, local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations.

FEMA’s Public Assistance grant program provides project funding directly to the state for disbursement to applicants. The grant to the county will be disbursed through the Texas Division of Emergency Management.
