Disaster Survivors Can Expect to See FEMA Visiting Their Neighborhoods
AUSTIN, TX – Disaster Survivor Assistance (DSA) Teams from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be visiting neighborhoods in Cameron, Willacy and Hidalgo counties to help assist residents.
The DSA teams go door-to-door in affected areas to offer survivors registration assistance, up-to-date information on their application status, on-the-spot needs assessments and help with referrals to community partners. Following an individual assistance disaster declaration, FEMA provides this mobile resource to help connect homeowners, renters, business owners and community organizations with the necessary resources to start the recovery process.
Inspections may occur once survivors register with FEMA, and home inspectors will be in the field verifying damages for those who have applied. Homeowners and renters should make sure their contact information is up-to-date and have access to a telephone. Once inspectors have called to schedule a visit, survivors will need to have a photo ID and proof of ownership or a lease.
All team members wear blue FEMA shirts and have photo IDs, and survivors are encouraged to verify credentials providing any information or having their home inspected.
Individuals or business owners that apply for a disaster loan with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) may also be contacted by a loss verifier who will inspect the damaged property.
