South Texas Storm Survivors Urged to Register for Federal Disaster Assistance

 

AUSTIN, TX – State and federal officials are encouraging Texas residents in Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy Counties who sustained property damage as a result of recent severe storms and flooding June 24 -25, 2019 to register for disaster assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as soon as possible.

 

The presidential disaster declaration of July 17 makes federal assistance available to eligible homeowners, renters and business owners in the three designated counties.

 

Disaster assistance can include grants to help pay for temporary housing, home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses not met by insurance or other assistance programs. Low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) are available to businesses, private nonprofit organizations, homeowners and renters to cover residential and business losses as a result of the disaster.

Affected residents and business owners may apply for disaster assistance by calling FEMA's toll-free registration number, 800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 800-462-7585. An application may also be completed online by going to www.DisasterAssistance.gov. Applicants will be asked to provide:

Social Security numberAddress of the damaged home or apartmentDescription of the damageInformation about insurance coverageA current contact telephone numberAn address where they can get mailBank account and routing numbers if they want direct deposit of any financial assistance

To apply for SBA low-interest disaster loans, applicants can visit their nearest disaster recovery center for one-on-one assistance or apply online using SBA’s secure website at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela.
